Singer Thailand PLC confirms that it will help its 3,000 employees affected by the decision of the Welfare Office to disqualify them from the welfare privileges. The company will provide insurance policies for those affected while waiting to negotiate the matter.
"The incident regarding the revocation of the social welfare privileges is not the matter between the company and the employees but between the employees and Welfare Department. However, Singer is not just watching the problem but trying to do the best in its capacity to help the 3,000 employees suffered from this decision," said Boonyong Tansakul, Deputy Managing Director of Singer Thailand PLC.
The Welfare Office at district 4 issued an announcement dated March 12, 2009 saying that some of Singer sales employees have been viewed as not qualified to receive the social welfare privileges and should not be entitled for the privileges since 1992. Singer has not known of this problem before and continued supporting its side of the welfare money ever since with transparency. The incident has deprived the employees of the government welfare they deserve.
"Singer Thailand PLC is the first direct-selling company in Thailand selling electrical appliances that provides several privileges to its employees including employee support fund, cremation support fund, medical coverage for entire family, retirement fund, employee's privilege for product purchase and accident insurance, which reflects the real intention of the company in supporting its employees, who have helped build the company for as many as 120 years," said Boonyong.
He added that new employees can still be confident in the welfare privileges because despite no welfare coverage for sales staff they are still entitled to other privileges. For non-sales staff the welfare privileges are still intact along with other privileges. As for this issue with the Welfare Office, all the parties will need to discuss and seek the most appropriate solutions," he concluded.
